hel is the ruler of the underworld, also called Hel, where people go if they did not die bravely in battle. Half of her face is young and fair, while the other half is rotting and corpse-pale. She is the daughter of Loki and the sister of Jörmungandr and Fenrir. A great hound, Garmr, guards the gate of her realm.
